Heating and cooling a home can cost up to half of your home’s entire utility bill, so anything you can do to keep that part to a minimum can help save you money. The average temperature in this area in September is 90.9 degrees, and we all know the weather lately has been strange so who knows how hot it will get! We’ve come up with a list of things you can do to reduce your cooling bill this season.
Seal All the Leaks
- Make sure windows opened in the cool of the morning are closed completely, locked is best. Any small crack will actually increase the pressure of air exiting the house and it will jet out with surprising efficiency. This will cost you money, maybe only a little bit here and there, but that adds up!
- Make sure your damper is closed on your fireplace. If it is wide open you could be losing up to 8% of your cooled air. That would add up fast, so check your damper!
- Change your air filters regularly. Once a month is not too often. When the air filter is clogged, the HVAC has to work harder to push the air through and that will cost you money. Your air will, of course, be cleaner and with fewer allergens, dirt, and pollen.
- Schedule a system check up. Call Satisfied Air to come out and do a maintenance check.
